Magharibi greenhouses specializes in the relatively new concept of intensive agriculture which relates to the highly-controlled growth of produce in greenhouses.
Until the appearance of this new concept, most of the crop growth was done in the open fields, thus leaving the grower and his crops exposed to the fluctuations of nature. The weather conditions directly influenced the length and success of crop growth seasons – a growth system known as extensive seasonal agriculture.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated that by 2050 the world’s population will reach 9.1 billion (34% higher than today) and that income levels will be “many multiples” of what they are now and that food production (net of food used for biodiesel) must increase by 70% to meet those needs (FAO, 2009). It is a matter of now investing on the needs of the population or the wants.
